The first year of our new strand of work supporting primary school library projects came to a close over the summer. We were delighted to receive heartwarming photographs of the spaces before and after the projects. Many had been transformed with a little Farmington help.
In true Farmington fashion, schools were trusted to decide what was needed for their individual circumstances. We admired the creativity shown by each school. Many found new ways to revive the spaces they already had. Some had very little to begin with.
Our only requirement was that each project should encourage children to read for fun. No classrooms or textbooks were to be included.
Space is always at a premium. As a result, several schools created libraries outdoors. Waterproof boxes were used to store new books. Canopies provided shelter from the weather. Artificial grass was also added.
Other spaces were transformed through art. Teachers’ hidden talents were brought to the fore. One city school created a woodland-themed library. And who could resist a toadstool seat?
