Farmington Scholarships
Every year, Farmington supports around 30 primary and secondary teachers (including head teachers) working in Religious Education or related subjects such as philosophy, moral and ethical education, and SEND. Each teacher receives up to 30 days out of the classroom to pursue their own project.
We provide every scholar with a supportive supervisor, and, where needed, access to a university library. New scholars attend our Induction Day and take part in our Annual Conference before beginning their scholarship. At the end of their year, they present their research at the Conference, as well as at their own school to colleagues, governors, and the wider community.
Applicants must secure the written support of their head teacher and have worked at their current school for at least two years before starting the scholarship. We also welcome joint applications from two or more teachers working on the same project (even from different schools), though each applicant must complete a separate form.
Farmington covers the cost of a cover teacher, as well as all conference, travel, and induction day expenses.
On occasion we work with other religious education funders to co-sponsor selected scholars, this helps us with sponsorship of scholars.

Through our partnership with the Temple Grove Schools Trust, we also offer up to six Temple Grove Farmington Scholarships each year. These are open to primary teachers in any subject, with the aim of promoting excellence in primary education. For example, two Wirral teachers, Keren Elson and Cath Richards, received a Temple Grove Farmington joint scholarship. They took their pupils to visit the Liverpool cathedrals and worked with sculptor Stephen Broadbent, helping the children create sculptures of their own.
